  "A visit to zoo"
An essay

By Priyanka A, VIth Standard

During the summer vacation I got an opportunity to visit the Mysore zoo with my parents. First we saw zoo museum and aquarium.

Next we saw the tallest animal Giraffe with its calf. After that we moved on to see the different kinds of birds which were kept in big fenced enclosure.

We saw different kinds of birds like peacock, pigeon, parrot, eagle, vulture, spoon-bill, canneries etc... The white peacock was dancing with its feathers open.

Then we saw the herbivores animals like Deer, Sambar, Elephants, camel etc which were kept in a spacious
area. There was a separate place for wild buffalo, zebra, rhinoceroses individually.

Wild animals like  lions, Tigers,  Cheetahs and Bears were kept in separate trenches with strong and high fencing around it. Some tigers including the White Bengal Tigers were kept in cave like structure with heavy fencing around it. Some of them roaring which made me afraid.
Then we saw the chimpanzees and gorillas kept in vast area. Even-though the instructions were displayed on boards not to tease, or mock or feed the animals, they were not followed by the visitors. One of the gorilla got disturbed by the behavior of the visitor and was throwing stones at the crowd. I was shocked to see this. We  saw the ostriches playing and chasing one another. Along with this we saw jackal, fox, rabbit, hyenas,.
etc. Then at last we moved to see the crocodile and snake park. There we saw different kinds of snakes . Pythons were resting on the tree  and it was fearful to look at them. We saw the crocodile  opening the mouth widely which looked very scary.

We took three hours to see the complete zoo. Over-all it was educative, memorable and was a good experience for me. I enjoyed every moment of it. I could see all the animals and birds which I had seen only in books and T.V. Finally I felt that Zoo could have been maintained in much better way.
